NEW YORK -- The industry group that promotes Wi-Fi technology standards is launching a simplified method for configuring the security settings between a wireless router, laptops and other devices, addressing a long-standing complaint that keeps many users from protecting their home networks. The Wi-Fi Alliance announce last week that it certified the first products featuring the new specification, which is called Wi-Fi Protected Setup. A survey last year by JupiterResearch found that 40 percent of consumers had either not activated the security on their Wi-Fi networks or weren't sure if they had, with more than half of them saying they thought their Internet firewalls were sufficient and many others pointing to setup difficulties....

Snyder, editor of Half/Life: Jew-ish Tales from Interfaith Homes, was in town for BookExpo America, the huge convention which brings together every kind of book, writer, and publishing house. Snyder wasn't expecting to see such a wide variety of Jewish authors there, some in costume or carrying props. The Columbus Public Library poll lost its computer link to the Georgia Secretary of State's voter database Monday morning, causing about a 30-minute delay for local voters trying to cast their ballots early for the Nov. 7 elections, reported Muscogee elections director Nancy Boren. But after that, advance voting went smoothly, she said. Poll workers at the Government Center elections office also got bumped off the state network, but only one voter was in line at 8:30 a.m., and workers there had the records to confirm that voter's eligibility, Boren said. At the library on Macon Road, where advance voting starts an hour later, the computer link is essential to confirming a voters' eligibility, ensuring they haven't already voted absentee and changed their status to "advance voter" so they can go vote again in the same election, she said....
