HP's market share increased 2.4 per cent in the fourth quarter to 17.4 per cent of the worldwide market, according to researcher Gartner. Dell slipped to 13.9 per cent from 16.4 per cent as overall PC sales growth slowed. After trailing Dell for three years, HP reclaimed the top spot in the third quarter while Dell began a $US150 million ($190 million) project to deal with customer service complaints. Deutsche Bank lifted its price target on Dell (DELL) to $28 a share from $25, saying that there is better visibility on the company's near-term results. The broker also raised its price target on Hewlett-Packard Co. to $40 a share from $34, contending H-P could exceed Wall Street's consensus earnings estimates by 2 cents to 3 cents a share. Subject to the recall are battery packs containing two types of battery cells made between August 2003 and February 2006, used in PCs manufactured mostly by six firms, including Fujitsu Ltd. , Toshiba Corp. and Sony itself. The latest program does not cover the Sony-made batteries being recalled by U.S. computer makers Dell Inc. and Apple Computer Inc., as well as the Lenovo group of China. The three makers have already announced separate replacement programs because the batteries caused actual accidents.
